Basuki Threatens to Revoke Permit of Unruly Mikrolet

Traffic congestion in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, seems hard to overcome. Rampant control done by the officers against public transports parked haphazardly still does not make the traffic goes smooth there.

Traffic congestion in Tanah Abang happens not because of the street vendors, but because of public transports parked haphazardly

According to Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama, traffic congestion in Tanah Abang is caused by public transports parked haphazardly, not the street vendors who are selling on roadsides.

“Traffic congestion in Tanah Abang happens not because of the street vendors, but because of public transports parked haphazardly,” he stated, Tuesday (9/2).

Basuki Threatened to Shut Down PKB Center

To resolve this problem, Basuki said that he has warned public transport entrepreneurs, especially those who own mikrolets, to urge their drivers not to park haphazardly. If the warning neglected, he will not hesitate to give strict sanction.

“We have summoned mikrolet entrepreneurs. If your drivers still park haphazardly, we will revoke your trajectory (permits),” he asserted.

In addition, Basuki disclosed that Jakarta Provincial Government is currently doing steps to control illegal parking by imposing meter parking system and towing vehicles that are parked haphazardly.

“(We do it) gradually. We’re going to install parking meter. There is also towing regulation now, in which you’ll be charged for Rp 500 thousand and pay it to the bank,” he uttered.
